Ovid
Publius Ovidius Naso (43 B.C. Sulmo – 17 A.D. Tomis) was the best Roman poet that was born in a prestigious family. He spent most of his life in Rome where he remained until 2 A.C. when he was exiled to the Black Sea.
He traveled Athena, Sicily, Asia Minor and worked in public places. He left it all to pursue writing of which his father never approved.
In the beginning of his poetry writing his main theme was love and he also got involved with several myths.
From that era derive three books: "The Loves", "The Art of Love" and a book of love poetry of heroines called "The Heroines". The one not preserved was "Medea" which was praised.
Later, during his exile, his poetry assumed a thinking character and he published two books of elegies: "Sorrows" and "Letters from the Black Sea".
His most important work is "Metamorphoses".
